Soccer

Soccer, known as football in most countries outside of North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net, which is typically guarded by a goalkeeper. The game is played on a rectangular field, commonly referred to as a pitch, with dimensions that vary but generally adhere to international standards set by governing bodies like FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association).

Players primarily use their feet to control, pass, and shoot the ball, although they can use their heads and torsos for certain actions. Only the goalkeeper is allowed to handle the ball with their hands, and this is restricted to their penalty area. The match consists of two 45-minute halves, with the team scoring the most goals declared the winner. If the match ends in a tie, it may lead to extra time or a penalty shootout, depending on the competition rules.

Soccer is the world’s most popular sport, with millions of players and fans globally, and it involves various levels of play, from local clubs to professional leagues and international competitions like the FIFA World Cup.
