Basketball

Basketball is a team sport played on a rectangular court where two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket, which is elevated 10 feet above the ground. The objective of the game is to accumulate more points than the opposing team by successfully making field goals (2 or 3 points depending on the distance from the hoop) and free throws (1 point).

The game features two main phases: offense, where a team attempts to score, and defense, where a team tries to prevent the opposing team from scoring. Players can dribble the ball (bounce it while moving) and pass it to teammates. The game is governed by a set of rules that regulate movement, scoring, fouls, and violations.

Basketball is known for its fast pace and high-energy style, incorporating elements of strategy, teamwork, and physical skill. It is popular globally, with professional leagues such as the NBA (National Basketball Association) and FIBA (International Basketball Federation) overseeing international competitions.
